Laura. Category 4. “Unsurvivable” storm surge; National Weather Service’s word.

Scary stuff. Louisiana is going to get battered by this thing. If you’re in that area, stay safe pal.

The hurricane must not have got the memo - 2020 has been cancelled and we are going to jump straight to 2024 after September 1. It isn’t any use trying to sneak up on us while we prepare for the jump.

Wife is in USCG, and based on what I heard at the dinner table, if any LA/TX Oppos are in evacuation zones and you have a way to evacuate, GTFO. Now.
They’re going to do what they can but this will be much bigger geographically and harder for them to respond than with Katrina. If you’re staying, first off don’t. If you insist on being stupid, put an axe in the attic and write your name/social in Sharpie on your clothes. Makes IDing bodies easier for them.

Got a good bit of rain so far, some wind. No doubt there will be some heavy rain / wind tonight. The eye is huge! Probably like 40 miles in diameter?

no kidding... that’s freaky

2020 has been quite a decade.

I’m in Houston (willowbrook area) and expect not much ouside of rain. Beaumont and Lake Charles are gonna get creamed. Everyone stay safe!
Also worried about all the refineries down there...it is gonna get interesting...

As for the refineries, it'll be great news for the oil companies because they'll be allowed to raise their prices. But when the national weather service uses words like catastrophic and unsurvivable, I would hope that people would pay attention. Then again 20/20 has been the decade of disregarding scientists.

This. Buy gas now - we won’t be running out but there’s a lot of refineries and pipeline originations that are going to be down for a while, so gas is about to get a lot more expensive for a little while.

That is exactly why they use those words--to get people’s attention.

Is that the live feed. I used to watch that quite a bit and lost the link somehow.

At a time when you don’t believe what someone says just because somebody wrote expert after their name on a news programme.

It’s currently being decided if the winds have reached the few mph needed to classify it as a Category 5.
Also it looks on radar to be turning towards Galveston and Houston.

We’ll see how many people believe these scientists and evacuate. I can tell you that Austin hotels are full, and the city is opening the convention center to take in people.

That was from Twitter....not sure on the live feed.
